Super Bass stepped forward, a determined glare in his eyes, and slowly hovered off the ground.

Super Sonic saw this, and grinned. “Nice. Holding nothing back, are we?” He cracked his knuckles. “Hope you’re ready!"

They then dashed forward, colliding in midair.

Right off the bat, Super Bass was thrown backwards from the aura Super Sonic was emitting. He tumbled through the wreckage of the Wily Castle, and came to a stop, kicking up a cloud of dust. He scowled, and aimed the bass buster at Sonic.

Sonic shot forwards, drawing back a fist for the strongest punch he could give. Bass fired his charge shot, but Sonic simply weaved out of the way, and the fist his Bass square in the chest.

A plume of dust and earth erupted from the spot, and Bass was sent flying backwards once more. He shook his head. He then realized that engaging in close combat with this form of the hedgehog was irrational. He needed to get some distance.

Without a word, he turned in midair, and started flying away from the golden hedgehog.

“Hey, where do you think you’re going?!” Sonic shouted, and streaked after him.

Super Bass looked back to see Super Sonic catching up with alarming speed. He put his thrusters on full, going fast enough to break the sound barrier, the world becoming a blur around him.

“Too slow!” He head a voice…from right beside him.

Bass turned to see Super Sonic flying in the air right alongside him, his arms crossed behind his head, practically resting. Before Bass could shoot at the hedgehog, the golden blur rammed his entire body into Super Bass, sending the robot tumbling sideways. He smashed through a couple houses, drawing a strangled cry from several residents. He didn’t have time to recover as Super Sonic streaked towards him once more.

Super Sonic grabbed Bass by the head and shoulders, and then dragged him towards a huge mountain. He slammed Super Bass into the rock wall, and began dragging him through the stone. Creating an avalanche in the process.

Bass’s head knocked on rock every time he tried to punch or kick back at the hedgehog. He trashed around, but Super Sonic held him in a tight grip.

Thinking fast, Super Bass twisted his arm around so that the bass buster was now aimed directly at Sonic. He began charging it up with energy as Super Sonic ripped him off the mountain, and now began slamming him repeatedly into the ground. They left a huge trench in the dirt as Super Sonic dragged Bass, intending to end this fight quickly-

BOOM!

Bass managed to sneak in the charged shot at point-blank range. The resulting blast sent Super Sonic flying off Bass and into a large tree, cracking it in half.

Sonic only shook his head at this. “So you’re a bit tougher than I thought. Much better!” he then flew towards Bass once more, who also ripped himself out of the ground, and began to fly alongside Sonic.

As they flew, they appeared to be only blurs of gold and black light to the bystanders. For them, they were locked together, grappling at each other, punching, kicking, firing off blasts from the bass buster, landing a super homing attack on the robot…

Sonic repeatedly rammed into Bass, knocking him around and around. He grabbed at the robot, but a charged blast discouraged him from that. Nevertheless, he never lost the grin, enjoying himself more and more. “You know what? I daresay you’re giving me a better fight than even my rival Shadow gave me! And that’s no small feat!”

“Nothing on this world can ever surpass me, hedgehog!” Super Bass spoke, slamming his shoulder into Super Sonic, only to bounce off again. “I am the greatest! I am above all other lowlifes on this planet! And that includes you, hedgehog!”

Sonic only grinned to this. “We’ll see about that!” he said, kicking the robot through multiple buildings.

They continued like this for some time, going faster and faster around the world, both slamming into each other, trying to overcome the other, to secure their supremacy.

Super Bass punched the golden hedgehog multiple times, to no discernable effect. The hedgehog smirked, and lashed out with a kick. Bass was sent flying away once more, but aimed his cannon in midair. The energy blast shot towards Super Sonic, and he barely managed to avoid it, the blast crashing into a boulder behind him and obliterating it.

Yet even in this situation, Sonic felt exhilarated. He was going so fast! Even though he had lived with this speed for his life, he always enjoyed the sensation thoroughly. The wind flowing through his quills, the world receding to a blur around him, the rush of speed running through his body like a quick electric shock…

This was why he ran. This was why he loved to go fast.

“Yeah! This is what I’m talking about!” Sonic yelled, closing his eyes for a moment.

Unfortunately, he was having a bit too much fun that he momentarily forgot about the battle. He didn’t realize that an angry robot was still trying to kill him until a huge energy blast, a fist, and a foot had smashed into his body. He skidded to the side, his golden aura flickering slightly.

Bass then rammed his body into Sonic, sending him crashing into a street, and rolling across multiple cars before coming to a stop. “Geez, don’t interrupt a guy when he’s enjoying the moment.” Super Sonic grumbled, hovering off the ground.

Super Bass touched down behind him, and fired another shot from his bass buster, knocking the hedgehog a few feet. Sonic looked at Bass, who smirked at him.

“So, you want to get serious? Fine then!” Super Sonic said, and then…disappeared.

Super Bass instantly went on high alert, looking around wildly, aiming his bass buster everywhere, trying to find where the hedgehog was going to come from. Left? Right? Front? Back? Above?

The answer? None of those directions.

The ground rumbled, and Super Bass looked down…only to see a golden fist flying towards his face.

“Take THIS!” Super Sonic burst out of the ground under Bass and delivered the mother of all uppercuts to the robot, sending him flying high into the air. He then streaked up into the air, catching up with Bass in an instant. He then charged up a spin dash and streaked at Super Bass.

The golden blur rammed into the robot, and drilled into his body as they both flew across the street. They rolled into the side of a building in a flash, slamming Bass into the wall. Changing his angle, Super Sonic then dragged Bass up the building, smashing windows on either side as they rolled up.

On the very top of the building, Super Sonic broke out of his ball form, and then grabbed Bass. Before the robot could fire, Sonic flipped him so that he was facing down, and then spun in midair, bringing his heel down hard on the robot. Bass’s body dropped at a fast pace, and slammed into the ground, sixty-four stories below.

Super Bass, lying on the ground, opened his eyes groggily…only to see a bright golden blur heading toward him.

WHOOOOOOM!!!

Super Sonic slammed into the robot, and a huge explosion blew apart the street. A massive crater was formed, and dust rose up, the glass around the place all shattering simultaneously.

The dust cleared to reveal Super Sonic, hovering a few feet off the ground, and Bass, lying on the ground with half of his armor blown off. He was still in his super form, but he still wasn’t any better in condition. The robot groaned in pain, and his eyes fluttered open weakly.

The golden hedgehog grabbed Bass, and lifted him up. He then punched him in the gut, sending him flying across the town and skittering on the pavement. He rolled so that he was lying on his back, and looked up…to see Super Sonic flying at him once more, preparing to deliver a supercharged kick.

Though his body was aching all over, Bass was not about to give up. He pointed his bass buster at the approaching hedgehog, and charged up the strongest shot he could fire.

Super Sonic smirked, and shot forward. “Let’s finish this!” he yelled, and prepared to strike…

And then, with a flash, the golden aura evaporated. Sonic’s eyes returned to normal, his quills came back down, and his fur was blue once more as the super form ran out.

Seeing this, Sonic’s eyes grew wide. “Uh-oh…” he said, once he realized that he was no longer in his invincible form and that Bass still had the charged cannon pointed directly at him.

K-K-K-K-BLAM!

There was a flash of green energy, and Sonic was sent flying away, rolling on the street and scraping his skin a bit. He came to a stop, moaning in pain as he had taken the full brunt of the charged shot. “Just my luck…” he grumbled.

Super Bass, realizing what had happened, quickly sprang up, adrenaline (do robots even have those?) flooding into his system and giving him a new burst of strength. He flew towards the hedgehog, and blasted him again, sending him flying away with a yelp. He then rushed forward, and delivered a kick to the hedgehog’s gut.

With a shout of pain, Sonic was thrown backwards. Before he even hit the ground, Bass was already upon him, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks upon the hedgehog. Sonic tried to block some of them, but he was still dazed from taking the blast head on.

Bass grabbed a fistful of Sonic’s quills, drawing a pained shout from the hedgehog, and started dragging him along, flying at breakneck speed. He swung his arm around, smashing Sonic into trees, buildings, and mountains.

He continued to fly like this until he saw the wreckage of the Wily Castle getting closer and closer. He threw Sonic away from him, into the air, and then aimed the bass buster at him. The barrel hummed with energy, and Sonic looked with horror as he was directly in the path of the blast.

There was an explosion of energy, and Sonic was thrown to the ground with a groan, battered and bruised. He tumbled through several walls of the Wily Castle (What was left of it, anyways), and came to a stop on a pile of robot scraps.

Sonic groaned. That had actually hurt quite a lot. He had been caught off guard, and now because of that, he had received quite a beatdown. He struggled to get back to his feet, his wounds aching.

There was a hum of machinery, and Super Bass flew into the room, smashing his heel into the hedgehog’s forehead. Sonic fell back into the mound of robot scraps.

“It’s been a long and hard fight, hedgehog…” Bass said, hovering in front of Sonic. “But now you’ve reached the end of the road. There’s no escape for you now.” He then smirked, spreading his arms wide. “How fitting, that you may die among the scraps of the robot mongrels, so that you can join them!”

“You…never know…until you actually do it…” Sonic said, breathing heavily.

Bass fired a shot at Sonic, knocking him down again. “Enough! You are nothing!” a sudden thought seemed to come to the robot’s mind, and a deliciously evil smile came across his face. “Oh, and by the way…you were looking for a two-tailed fox? Called Tails? He’s dead.”

At those words, everything seemed to stop.

Sonic’s eyes grew wide, and he drew in a surprised breath. “What…?” he breathed.

“The doctor killed him. Burned him to a crisp! You came here to find him? Too bad…he’s only dust and ashes.” Bass then aimed his cannon directly at Sonic, charging up one final shot. “And now…you can join him, too.”

Sonic lay there, trembling. “Tails…” he mumbled, his hands shaking. Tails was dead? His one closest friend, the one that had been with him through so many advantures? The one who had been helped and helped him out so many times? The robot had to be lying. He had to be. There was no way his buddy could lose to that mad scientist.

So why did he get the gut feeling that the robot was telling the truth?

Sonic dropped his head. He gritted his teeth. His hands slowly clenched into fists.

“Sayonara…Sonic the Hedgehog.” Bass said. He fired-!

Suddenly, Sonic’s head snapped up. He opened his eyes…and they were completely white, with no pupils.

“NO!”

A sudden burst of energy from the hedgehog sent Super Bass reeling back, his shot going wild. He stared, wide-eyed, at where Sonic had been. What had happened?! The hedgehog was down, about to meet his doom, so what was going on now?

A sudden uppercut sent Bass flying away, skidding across the ground. He got back up and rubbed his chin, looking at who had done that.

It was Sonic…but he was completely different now. His eyes were white, without any pupils, yet they were positively burning with rage. His quills were standing up once more, but he wasn’t enveloped in the bright, golden aura of Super Sonic. Instead, a pitch-black aura surrounded him, rolling off him and staining the very air around him dark.

Dark Sonic…had finally been unleashed.

Bass narrowed his eyes. “I didn’t expect this…” he muttered, firing off rapid shots from his bass buster.

Dark Sonic only hovered there. The shots smashed into him, and blew him with a flash…doing absolutely nothing to the hedgehog.

“Impossible!” Bass shouted, and flew forward, throwing a punch at the dark form.

Faster than the eye could track, Dark Sonic’s hand whipped up, and caught Bass’s hand. He then began applying pressure to the robotic hand, slowly crushing it. Super Bass cried out, feeling the machinery pop inside, and tried to yank away the hand. He held up the bass buster, and fired off three shots at point-blank range.

They simply bounced off Dark Sonic’s skin, doing nothing as the hedgehog narrowed his eyes. He then squeezed his hand, crushing Bass’s own hand underneath. Bass shouted in pain, the metal crumpling like paper underneath. Wires stuck out, and all that remained was a mangled mess.

Dark Sonic let go of Bass’s hand, who stumbled back. “How?!” he shouted in utter disbelief. The hedgehog had been beaten! Broken! What was going on now?

He saw the hedgehog slowly hover forth, and suddenly, a thrill of horror seized the robot’s metallic heart. Whatever this thing was, despite having seen it for only a minute now, Bass immediately knew that this thing was dangerous – dangerous than any other robot he had fought.

Bass quickly threw all he had at the approaching hedgehog, sending blast after blast of charged shots. They all bounced off the dark aura Sonic was giving off. No matter how much shots Bass threw at him, Sonic simply shrugged it off. “No way!  How are you this strong?!” Bass shouted as he began to back off.

The dark hedgehog’s mouth twitched slightly, and then in a flash, he flew forward in a dark blur and grabbed the robot by the neck. Bass’s eyes grew wide, and he started to gag as he felt the metal being crushed underneath.

And then Dark Sonic spoke. “Pathetic.” He spat. “You want to know why I’m so strong now? Because I don’t care about holding back now. Because I now want…to rip apart you, and the doctor who dared to lay a hand on Tails.” He slammed a hand into the robot’s gut, crushing the metal, and actually piercing through Bass’s skin. “You call yourself the strongest? You put yourself above all others? I’ve met, fought, and defeated beings that you can’t even hold a candle to. I’ve seen dimensional beings, black holes, and evil overlords that you can’t even imagine facing! And you know what I did? I simply laughed in their faces. I then proceeded to destroy every single one of them, so that they could never again threaten the world…and any of my friends.” Dark Sonic then stabbed his other hand into Bass’s gut. “Especially Tails. And now your doctor has killed him…” Sonic began to push apart with his hands. Bass’s eyes widened as the wound in his gut began to grow bigger and bigger as Sonic pushed, slowly tearing him in two from the inside. “…he’s going to pay.”

“MONSTER!” Bass screamed. He couldn’t help it. In the face of such terror, even his usual stoic and calm nature was falling apart. His eyes were wide and his pupils were dilated in fear.

Dark Sonic stopped for a moment, and looked up, staring directly at Bass’s face. “…then I will be a monster.”

And then, with one clean motion, Sonic ripped Bass cleanly in half.

The robot stared for a moment, the life fading out of those ruby eyes. Then he slumped, lifeless, to the ground, both parts of him hitting the floor. Wires sparked, and oil leaked out.

Dark Sonic stood there, looking over the remains of his enemy. A sudden rustling noise caught his attention. He looked around, and spotted the Wily Capsule hovering a few feet from the ground. It was still in a bad shape, its top still broken. Inside Dr. Wily watched the scene play out with wide eyes.

“…You.” Dark Sonic growled.

Before Dr. Wily knew what was happening, a gloved hand, wreathed in a dark aura, punched through the walls of the Wily Capsule, and grabbed his lab coat. He was then yanked outside, and came face to face with a positively livid Dark Sonic.

“You…killed…TAILS!” Sonic roared, and clamped both of his hand around the doctor’s neck. He was going to do it. He was going to make sure no more of his friends was going to die because of this man. One simple twist, and his neck would be broken. Dark Sonic took a deep breath, and-

“NO, SONIC!”

The voice made Dark Sonic pause. He frowned. That sounded familiar…

He looked behind him, and saw a red echidna standing there, his dreadlocks flying in the wind. He had his hands clenched, and was looking at Sonic with wide purple eyes.

“Knuckles.” Dark Sonic growled. “Not now.”

“You can’t, Sonic!” Knuckles shouted, stepping forward. “You yourself said that you would never cross that line!”

“This man crossed the line first when he killed Tails!” Dark Sonic roared in rage, holding Wily in a death grip.

Knuckles took another step, gritting his teeth. “No.” he said quietly.

“Don’t stop me.” Dark Sonic said.

“You know it’s not right.” Knuckles said. “What that geezer did to Tails was horrible, but it doesn’t give you the right to take revenge that way.”

Dark Sonic didn’t respond, but simply stared at Knuckles.

The echidna’s expression grew softer. “And besides…we’re still here, Sonic.”

That made Dark Sonic pause, and he narrowed his eyes.

“Me, Amy, Shadow, Rouge…they are still here.” Knuckles said. “And they wouldn’t want you to cross the line, either. Even Shadow.”

Dark Sonic still didn’t say anything, but his aura seemed to lessen slightly.

“Don’t do it.” Knuckles said, his voice barely a whisper now. “And besides…I already have a nice chili dog heated up for you back home.”

Dark Sonic’s eyes widened…and then he suddenly broke into a bitter laugh. The dark aura evaporated, leaving Sonic, in tip top condition, back in his normal form. The hedgehog then released his grip on Wily’s neck, and the doctor collapsed to the ground. Sonic looked sadly at Knuckles. “You really killed the moment with that chili dog comment, you know that?”

Knuckles scratched his head, slightly sheepishly. “Yeah…maybe that was a bit too cheesy for this occasion.”

“Well, I never say no to chili dogs, you know that, Knux?” Sonic said, a slight grin on his features. However, he looked back at Wily, who was gaping at Sonic, and his face became a bit more serious.

“Why did you spare me…?” Wily muttered.

“Because – and I never thought I would admit this – Knux was right. As mad as I am that you killed Tails…I swore never to cross the line.” Sonic then suddenly leaned in close to Wily, his eyes narrowing even more. “But let me warn you now, if you dare to touch any of my friends again, I swear that I’ll come back for you. And next time…I won’t hold back.”

Sonic then stood up, and turned around, leaving a bewildered Dr. Wily in the dust of his own Castle.

The hedgehog walked up to Knuckles. “Come on.” He said. He was still grieved about the loss of his best buddy, but Knuckles was right – his other friends were still there to comfort him, to help him. He managed a slightly sad smile. “Let’s go home.”

Knuckles nodded, also smiling.

The two friends then turned, and ran off into the horizon.

K.O!

Kym: Tails is avenged! YES!

Johnny: Now, this fight…was actually closer than most people thought. Wily’s robot minions wouldn’t pose too much of a threat to Sonic, as he has dealt with those sort of robots on a daily basis. And with his vast array of items and power-ups, it was conceivable that he could dismantle most of Wily’s robotic army and even the Yellow Devil with considerable ease. However, what made this match close were Wily’s big guns.

Kym: The Wily Machine actually did pose some threat to Sonic, as its teleportation could counter Sonic's speed somewhat, and since he would be backing up his robotic minions the entire time, he could give Sonic some trouble. However, there was an important factor in this; experience.

Johnny: Sonic has dealt with Eggman’s boss mechs, many of which are actually designed to keep up with Sonic’s speed. He has had a lot of experience fighting those types of machines on a daily basis. And Sonic has fought another opponent who could match him in strength and speed…Metal Sonic. However, Wily hasn’t fought anything like Sonic before, as Mega Man and Sonic’s capabilities are fundamentally different. The one robot that truly could have taken down Sonic was Bass, who has an incredibly versatile moveset, and enormous destructive capabilities.

Kym: …until the super forms came into play.

Johnny: For those of you that are saying that Super Sonic’s invincibility is a no limits fallacy, think again. It’s explicitly stated that Super Sonic is indeed completely invulnerable.

Kym: In this state, Wily and his robots had no way of virtually harming him. He’s simply too fast to hit and even if you do, you can’t hurt him because he’s invincible.

Johnny: Now, Knuckles have punched Sonic out of his super form…once in the entire series, and that was when he was still in his classic era, and his power has only grown since then. But not only that, Super Sonic has bested opponents that Knuckles couldn’t stand against (ex: Perfect Chaos), and has also tanked hits and defeated beings that could destroy worlds, time, and reality (ex: Solaris, Time Eater). Even if Bass was truly multi-planet level, it was unlikely that he could knock Sonic out of his Super form that easily.

Kym: Also, speaking of Bass…he has never really beaten Mega Man in a fight, a guy who Sonic absolutely destroyed when they fought once. Keep in mind that this was Sonic’s base form, without the invincibility. And if Mega Man couldn’t beat base Sonic in a direct confrontation, then it was extremely unlikely that Bass would be able to beat Sonic. And yes, I know the events were erased from the timeline, but it still happened in that reality, which means that though the event was erased, Sonic still has the capabilities of beating Mega Man.

Johnny: Then let’s throw Dark Sonic into the mix. This guy’s also invincible, is less likely to hold back since it unleashes Sonic’s darker side, and has no defined time limit other than “until he calms down”…if Super Sonic couldn’t give Sonic the win, this would have. Also remember; once, Sonic was confronted by two robots that were built based on data that was collected from Sonic, designed to match him in speed and strength. And what did Sonic do? Sonic – or more specifically, Dark Sonic – tore them apart in an instant.

Kym: And this whole battle was assuming that we wouldn’t give Sonic everything he had, such as the ark of the cosmos, Caliburn, time/speed break, Darkspine Sonic, Excalibur Sonic, Hyper Sonic, and Ultra Sonic! And Ultra Sonic can control time itself and manipulate matter!

Johnny: Of course, Wily still did stand a good chance, and Bass certainly could have held his own against Sonic, even in his super form, for some time…but in the end, it wasn’t enough.

Kym: Wily just didn’t see this defeat coming.

Johnny: The winner is Sonic the Hedgehog.
